The Lord said to Abram: “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. I will bless you.” (Gen 12,1.2)
In February 2015 I left Switzerland – the country where I lived for over seventeen years – to explore a special place in the world: the United Arab Emirates in the Southeast of the Arabian Pensinsula, at the Persian Gulf. After leaving Germany in 1997 it is my second Exodus into a new Land “I will show you”.
I don’t go as a tourist any more but now as a Roman-Catholic priest – sent by the Bishop of Chur in Switzerland and hosted by the Bishop of Abu Dhabi in the Emirates.
And there is – of course – this one obvious question: Catholics in the Arabian Desert? Yes – more than one million. All over the Emirates – from Ras Al-Khaimah in the North via Dubai to Abu Dhabi – they live an intensive and impressive testimony of faith in eight huge parishes. This website project may give you a small insight into the Life of the Church at the Gulf – of course: from my very individual point of view.
Feel invited to look around with the word Bishop Hinder invited me first time to Abu Dhabi:
“Come and you will see” (John 1,46)
